A PLIF cage (Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion cage) is a specialized surgical implant used in spinal fusion procedures to stabilize the lumbar spine by replacing a damaged disc with a cage filled with bone graft material. It helps restore disc height, stabilize the spinal segment, and promote solid bony fusion between adjacent vertebrae. PLIF cages are commonly used in combination with pedicle screw and rod fixation systems, providing immediate mechanical stability and supporting long‑term fusion success.

Product DESCRIPTION

The PLIFIC™ PLIF (Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion) Cage System by Siora Surgicals Pvt. Ltd. is a precision-engineered spinal fusion solution designed to restore disc height, stabilize the lumbar spine, and promote solid bony fusion between adjacent vertebrae.

Manufactured from high-quality, biocompatible materials — including PEEK (VESTAKEEP®), Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V ELI), and 3D porous Titanium — these cages combine strength, durability, and imaging compatibility. Their anatomical design ensures optimal load distribution and stability, while porous structures encourage bone ingrowth for faster fusion.

Available in lordosis profiles of 6° and 8° and lengths of 20 mm, 23 mm, and 26 mm, the PLIFIC™ system allows surgeons to select the best fit for each patient’s anatomy and surgical requirements.

Designed for ease of insertion and secure placement, the PLIFIC™ Cage System helps improve surgical outcomes and patient recovery. Backed by stringent manufacturing standards, Siora Surgicals ensures consistent quality and reliable clinical performance.

PRODUCT FEATURES

1. Advanced Material Options

  • Available in PEEK (VESTAKEEP®), Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V ELI), and 3D Porous Titanium, offering high mechanical strength, excellent biocompatibility, and an elastic modulus close to human bone for optimal load sharing and fusion support.

2. Enhanced Fusion Environment

  • Large Axial Window: A maximized hollow core allows for greater bone graft volume, promoting faster and more robust bone in-growth and fusion.

3. Clear Radiographic Monitoring

  • Radiolucent PEEK Body: Enables unobstructed visualization of the fusion site.
  • Tantalum Markers: Ensure accurate intraoperative placement and reliable post-operative assessment under fluoroscopy.

4. Smooth Insertion (Self-Distracting Design)

  • Bullet and Convex Nose Geometry: Facilitates smooth insertion into tight disc spaces, minimizes tissue trauma, and assists in disc space distraction for optimal endplate fit and restoration of natural lumbar alignment.

5. Secure Fixation & Migration Resistance

  • Serrated/Pyramidal Teeth: Provide strong initial fixation by gripping the vertebral endplates, reducing the risk of migration and maintaining implant stability until fusion is achieved.
Clinical Indications

The PILFIC™ PLIF Cage System is indicated for the treatment of various spinal conditions, including:

1. Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) with Spinal Instability

  • Degeneration of intervertebral discs leading to pain, reduced disc height, and segmental instability, requiring stabilization and fusion.

2. Spondylolisthesis (Degenerative or with Stenosis)

  • Forward slippage of a vertebra, often associated with spinal canal narrowing, resulting in instability and nerve compression.

3. Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

  • Narrowing of the lumbar spinal canal leading to compression of neural elements, often associated with pain, numbness, or weakness.

4. Pseudarthrosis or Failed Previous Fusion

  • Failure of prior spinal fusion resulting in non-union, persistent pain, and instability requiring revision surgery.

5. Trauma, Tumor, or Spinal Deformities

  • Structural compromise due to fractures, neoplastic lesions, or abnormal curvatures (e.g., scoliosis, kyphosis), requiring stabilization and reconstruction.

frequently asked questions

What is a PLIF PEEK cage used for in lumbar fusion surgery?

A PLIF PEEK cage is used to restore disc height, stabilize lumbar segments, and promote bone fusion during posterior lumbar interbody fusion procedures.

PLIF cages are typically implanted bilaterally through a posterior approach, while TLIF cages are inserted unilaterally through a transforaminal pathway.

PLIF cages are available in PEEK (VESTAKEEP®)Titanium (Ti‑6Al‑4V ELI), and 3D porous Titanium, offering strength, biocompatibility, and excellent imaging compatibility.
